1. GEORGIA BULLDOGS (2-0)
Despite some sluggish starts, it’s been business as usual for the defending back-to-back champions.
2. MICHIGAN WOLVERINES (2-0)
It would appear that the Wolverines are the team to beat in the Big Ten.
3. USC TROJANS (3-0)
Sheesh! This offense is humming. Caleb Williams is a human highlight reel. This team is a National Championship contender, but they will need to improve on defense.
4. FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES (2-0)
The ‘Noles are back! The short amount of time that it took head coach Mike Norvell to right this ship is very impressive.
5. TEXAS LONGHORNS (2-0)
I’ve been following Quinn Ewers since he was a high school junior, and like many others, believed in his ability to play college football at an elite level. While he hasn’t exactly lived up to that lofty level of hype, he appears to be heading in that direction at last. The statement road victory over Alabama is proof.
6. NOTRE DAME (3-0)
I think this team is legit. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see them in the playoff. Sam Hartman has come in and given the Irish a lot to be excited about.
7. OHIO STATE (2-0)
Kyle McCord hasn’t been running the offense at the high-level Buckeyes fans are accustomed to. We will have to wait and see if he can find a groove.
8. PENN STATE NITTANY LIONS (2-0)
I said Michigan was the team to beat in the Big Ten, but Penn State may have something to say about that down the road.
9. ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE (1-1)
Obviously double-digit home losses aren’t great. But this is Bama. They should be hanging around come November. It looks like they’ll have to fight for the SEC West, however.
10. WASHINGTON HUSKIES (2-0)
This is a great team, but things get difficult schedule-wise down the road. However, if Penix doesn’t falter, these guys could make some playoff level noise.
11. OREGON DUCKS (2-0)
Bo Nix is as polarizing as a QB can be. He will be walking a high wire in the PAC-12 this year – and I’m excited to see how far he can make it.
12. TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS (2-0)
Hopefully that mediocre performance against Austin Peay was on account of Tennessee looking ahead to the Florida game this week.
13. UTAH UTES (2-0)
There has been no Rising – but this team has been rising to the occasion. (Get it?)
14. LSU TIGERS (1-1)
The Florida State game was closer than the final score would indicate, so I don’t think Tigers fans should be worrying too much. They took their frustration out on Grambling, who they hung 72 points on. It doesn’t matter the team; you don’t put up 72 points by accident.
15. COLORADO BUFFALOES (2-0)
Coach Prime abruptly silenced the critics. This team is now 2-0 with one of the wins coming as a 20.5-point underdog. Travis Hunter is excelling on both sides of the ball. This is one of the funnest teams in college football.
16. OREGON STATE BEAVERS (2-0)
Former Clemson QB DJ Uiagalelei looks comfortable in his new home. Granted he hasn’t faced the toughest of tests, but he brings an above average offensive skillset to a team with a solid defense.
17. MISSISSIPPI REBELS (2-0)
Lane Kiffin & company must be licking their lips with what is going on in the SEC West. There is blood in the water, with Alabama, LSU, & Texas A&M already dropping games. This team will be a contender to wind up playing in Atlanta.
18. KANSAS STATE WILDCATS (2-0)
The reigning Big 12 champs will be looking to run it back. They haven’t been tested yet, but they have made quick work of the teams they faced.
19. NORTH CAROLINA TAR HEELS (2-0)
These guys are an ACC title contender. They nearly dropped a game vs App State, but we all know what Drake Maye is capable of.
20. OKLAHOMA SOONERS (2-0)
September 23 is when we should really see how much this team improved from last year. Their schedule isn’t too difficult until then, but the Cincinnati Bearcats, the newest addition to the conference, will certainly show up to try and take down the Big 12’s perennial powerhouse.
21. MIAMI HURRICANES (2-0)
I just can’t figure Tyler Van Dyke out. After an abysmal season last year, it looks like he’s found his form from 2021 – and used that form to hang 5 TDs on Texas A&M.
22. DUKE BLUE DEVILS (2-0)
I doubt too many people expected to see Duke in the Top 25 this season, but taking down 9th ranked Clemson will put you up there. They followed that up with a 42-7 thumping of Lafayette. All you can do is beat the team in front of you, and Duke has done that so far.
23. UCLA BRUINS (2-0)
UCLA seems to be adjusting fine after losing DTR. Coastal Carolina & San Diego State both field decent teams, and the Bruins dispatched both of them by double-digits.
24. WASHINGTON STATE (2-0)
As a whole, the PAC-12 is off to an excellent start, and Washington State is a part of that. After beating Colorado State 50-24, the Cougars took down #19 Wisconsin 31-22.
25. CLEMSON TIGERS (1-1)
I’m just waiting to see if the Duke game was a fluke. We should have the answer in 2 weeks when Clemson travels to Tallahassee to take on FSU.
