PATRIOTIC HOG REPORT – STATE OF THE UNION: “REGROUP!!”
DAAAAAAAA BEARS KICKED OUR ASS!!!! Wow that sucked. I think this was worst possible outcome for the game barring a bunch of injuries. Mac Jones started… and then floundered. Zappe came in and was ELECTRIC in rallying the Patriots down 0-10 back to winning 14-10 and in comfortable territory. But DAAAA BEARS wouldn’t go away as they manage to post another 10 points on the board while shutting down the Zappe-led offense into the half. The Patriots had no answer for the Bears run game, so Chicago said “If it aint broke, don’t fix it” as they rammed the ball down the Patriots’ throat all game. On 45 attempts the Bears rushed for 243 yards with Justin Fields, David Montgomery, and Khalil Herbert all collecting 60+ rushing yards. Kyle Duggar was pretty much a non-factor in the game because of the Bears gameplan, while Miles Bryant collected the only INT.
The Offense Didn’t Show Up
The Patriots offense came out of the half on mute as they produced no points during the rest of the game. In fact, they couldn’t even produce a decent offensive drive while the turnovers piled up. The Bear’s defense was buzzing everywhere in Gillette Stadium. The Patriots’ defense did solid vs the pass as they collected 4 sacks and 1 interception but were unable to be a difference maker. Exhaustion mounted as the offense hung the defense out to dry against a capable rushing offense behind some quality QB play in Fields.
Shoutout Cairo Santos
Cairo Santos’ kicking props before the game were 5.5 points which he doubled, as Nick Folk scored 2 for the Patriots on PAT’s. Helluva prop performance sir. Matthew Judon collected 2.5 sacks with 3 QB hits like the dog that he is. He was due, and I’m glad he was able to show out with a great performance, even though it came in a loss.
The Road Ahead: New England vs New York Jets
Back to the devastation, Mac Jones looked bad and then the team looked good behind the other guy and then they were really bad. In front of a home crowd on a dreary ass Monday night in what should have provided the Patriots an opportunity to win comfortably! Not to cause any panic, but the Patriots play the revamped Jets in New York this week. Hopefully, Bill Belichick reaches into his bag of tricks and is able to muster some sauce outta this squad in what looks to be a tougher game than most expected before the season began. Mac Jones will recover a little more this week and be ready to go. It’s going to be a wild time on how divided this fanbase is about the quarterback situation. You have to believe Mac Jones is going to right the ship, if not then we may see more Bailey Zappe. Especially going into the Jets rivalry game next week where if Mac Jones has the same performance, regardless of the outcome, it might be time to shut him down for a bit and let him heal up enough to perform well. The last thing anybody wants to see is Mac Daddy getting hurt for the season or worse in a blowout loss.
